Railpen Investment Board (RIB)

The RIB reports directly to the Trustee. It has a Non-Executive Chair, two Trustee Directors and several Non-Executive members. The CEO of RPMI Railpen is an Executive Director of the RIB. The primary role of the RIB is to provide an oversight function in the management of the Railpen Pooled Funds.

    Paul Trickett

    Paul is an independent Non-Executive Director of Railpen and Chairman of the RIB. Paul holds non-executive positions in investment management and insurance firms. Paul led the Global Portfolio Solutions group in EMEA at Goldman Sachs Asset Management (GSAM). Prior to his GSAM role, Paul was Head of Towers Watson’s Investment Practice for the EMEA region, and at an earlier stage in his career he was Chief Executive of the British Coal Pension Scheme.

    Chris Hitchen

    Chris is the CEO of the Railways Pension Trustee Company and its operating subsidiaries, RPMI and Railpen Investments.

    He sits on the Board of the Investor Forum and is a Director of the Pensions Quality Mark. From 2010-2015 Chris was a Trustee Member of NEST and was the first Chair of its Investment Committee. He is a former Chairman of the Pensions and Lifetime Savings Association and of its Investment Council. Chris is an Actuary, with 30 years' experience in pensions and investments. In 2015, Chris was appointed an Honorary Fellow of the CFA Society of the UK (FSIP).

    Angelien Kemna

    Angelien joined the RIB in January 2015. Angelien holds the position of Chief Finance & Risk Officer at APG (Algemene Pensioen Group).

    From 2002 to July 2007 Angelien was CEO of ING Investment Management Europe, where she was responsible for more than EUR 150 billion of assets under management. From 2001 to 2004, Angelien worked as global Chief Investment Officer. From 1992 to 2001, she served in various positions at Robeco Group. Before joining the asset management industry, Angelien pursued an academic career.

    John Mayfield

    John worked as the British Railways Board’s Chief Internal Auditor and then as Finance Director at the British Rail Property Board until he retired in 1993. He is a past president of the Retired Railway Officers’ Society and was a member of the 1994 Pensioners Section Pensions Committee from 1994 to 1996. John was appointed as a director of the Railways Pension Trustee Company in 1996.

    Karl Sternberg

    Karl joined the RIB in September 2014. He graduated from Oxford with a degree in PPE and was previously a UK fund manager at Morgan Grenfell, and then CIO of the firm’s newly-acquired Australian business. He returned to the UK to hold a series of global investment roles at Deutsche Asset Management.

    He established Oxford Investment Partners in 2006 with three Oxford colleges to provide multi-asset fund management.

    Karl has been a Trustee of Whitbread Pension Scheme. He is a Director of JP Morgan Income and Growth, Lowland Investment Company, and the Monks Investment Trust. He is a non-executive director of FTSE-100 insurer Friends Life Group.

    Meliha Duymaz

    Meliha is the Managing Director for Anglia Route Network Rail since July 2017. Before joining Network Rail, she worked for a diverse range of organisations including Serco Plc in the Docklands Light Railway, public relations group Hunstworth Plc and as an auditor in Turkey.

    Having spent 17 years as a finance professional in various industries, Meliha has extensive experience in franchising & bidding, outsourcing, financial and commercial management in complex organisations.
