Strategic Planning Process

Station-Clock-(Circular-Face-Clock)
The strategic planning process involves recommending a portfolio for each of the Pooled Funds to the Railpen Investment Board (RIB). This is intended to help map out the Risk/Return profile of the Fund and the direction of the portfolio over the next few years.

The investment process for the Strategic Portfolio involves analysing investment ideas through multiple lenses. These lenses include a macro/financial backdrop, market valuations, the expected returns available from different risk premia, risk analysis and the pros and cons of various implementation methods for risk premia. This also enables different portfolios to be analysed against each other before arriving at the recommended Strategic Portfolio for the Railpen Investment Board (RIB).

Implementation of the Strategic Portfolio to create the actual Pooled Fund is delegated to Railpen which results in a range of assets with characteristics consistent with the agreed Strategic Portfolio as agreed by the Board.
